What the Sand Weight Result Means

The page starts with a 1m × 1m area at 1,000mm depth, which is exactly one cubic metre. With washed sand selected, LandscapeCalc multiplies that volume by its 1.50 tonnes-per-cubic-metre planning coefficient to display 1.50 tonnes, or 1,500 kilograms.

Why the Supplier Figure Can Differ

Sand density changes with grading, mineral composition, moisture and compaction. Australian Native Landscapes, for example, publishes indicative loose values from 1.3 to 1.5 tonnes per cubic metre for several sands. LandscapeCalc uses 1.50 for most listed sands and 1.60 for paving sand; the complete coefficient list and source policy are on the Methodology & Sources page.

Mass Equivalents Are Not Bag Counts

The 20 kg result divides estimated kilograms by 20. It is a mass equivalent, not a statement that every sand product is sold in 20 kg bags or that bagged volume will equal bulk volume. Confirm the pack size, coverage and supplier conversion before ordering.

For a different area or depth, use the main sand calculator and enter the dimensions from your project requirements.
