How Many 50 Litre Bags of Mulch Are in a Cubic Metre?
One cubic metre is 1,000 litres, so 1 m³ equals 20 bags of 50 litres. For any bag size, divide the total litres by the litres per bag and round up. For example, 1 m³ needs 34 bags of 30 litres, providing 1,020 litres in total.

Volume Is the Primary Result
Australian landscape yards commonly quote loose mulch by volume. Split irregular beds into simple rectangles, circles or triangles, calculate each section, and add the cubic-metre results. Subtracting trunks or small plants is usually less reliable than measuring the actual area you intend to cover.
Material Choice Changes the Weight Estimate
Selecting wood chip, bark, pine bark or another mulch changes only the indicative weight coefficient. It does not change the measured volume. Organic material varies with moisture, particle size and composition, so use the supplier's product conversion when one is available.
