Sand Requirements for 10 Square Metres
Ten square metres represents a common small project size, perhaps a narrow path being prepared for pavers, a section of yard being levelled, or the bedding layer for a small patio. At the standard paver bedding depth of 30mm, 10 square metres requires approximately 0.3 cubic metres of washed sand. This amounts to around 450 kilograms, a quantity that sits right at the boundary between bagged purchases and bulk delivery.
At this volume, you have a genuine choice in how to source your sand. Bulk delivery minimises handling but may include minimum delivery fees that make small quantities relatively expensive per cubic metre. Bagged sand from hardware stores means carrying roughly 22 to 23 bags of 20kg sand, which is manageable but represents significant effort. Consider your time, access constraints, and what other materials you might need when deciding.
Quick Reference by Depth
The depth you need varies significantly by application. For paver bedding, 30mm is standard, giving you 0.3 cubic metres for 10 square metres. For levelling or filling, you might need 50mm depth, which requires 0.5 cubic metres. For sandpit filling at 300mm depth, the same 10 square metres needs 3 cubic metres. Always check what depth is appropriate for your specific project before ordering.
Combining with Other Materials
Many projects requiring sand also need other materials. Paving jobs need roadbase for the sub-base as well as sand for bedding. If you're ordering multiple materials, bulk delivery becomes more economical because you're spreading delivery costs across a larger total order. Some suppliers offer combined loads with different materials in separate sections of the truck, which can work well for complete project material supply.
