This weighs around 2.7 tonnes, which sits at the threshold where bulk delivery becomes practical and bagged material becomes impractical.

Roadbase is one of the heaviest landscape materials, with DGB20 weighing approximately 1.8 tonnes per cubic metre. The 1.5 cubic metres needed for this area would equal roughly 135 bags at 20kg each, making bulk delivery the obvious choice. Even a half-cubic-metre order would mean handling nearly 50 bags. For any roadbase project, plan for bulk delivery from the start.

Depth Options and Material Volume

The depth you need determines material requirements significantly. At 100mm depth, suitable for pedestrian paths and light-duty applications, 10 square metres requires 1.0 cubic metres. At 150mm for standard vehicle areas, you need 1.5 cubic metres. For heavy-duty applications at 200mm depth, the requirement increases to 2.0 cubic metres. Small Area Delivery Considerations

Small roadbase orders sometimes attract minimum delivery charges or may not be economical as standalone deliveries. If you have other landscaping materials to order, combining them into a single delivery spreads the cost more efficiently. Alternatively, some suppliers allow collection by trailer for those with suitable vehicles and towing capacity. At 2.7 tonnes, this quantity is within the capacity of many tandem trailers but exceeds most single-axle trailer limits.
